I mentioned that we lost one of our Great Danes last summer. As hard as that was, we lost our remaining Dane to stomach bloat a few weeks ago.
Not having either one of those knuckleheads around made the house seem very empty. We were deciding what to do and we got a message from one of Mrs. Big John's friends involved in a Great Dane rescue organization in North Carolina. A four year old Great Dane was being returned to them and wondered if we were interested.... One thing lead to another and we made a trip to NC this past weekend.
Meet "House".
Here's his story. He was found with a bunch of Great Danes in a trailer. Someone would stop by once in a while and toss some food in, but that was it. He has part of one ear missing from his time there. From the reports, he was scrawny and scared of his own shadow.
He was rehabilitated by a guy named John who ran a Great Dane "rescue" place. BTW, John just recently passed away.
From there, he was adopted by a young family. They had him for a few months, and decided they didn't want him anymore. Without getting into details, they should have never gotten the dog to begin with. Turns out they have a history of adopting rescue dogs and returning them when they got bored with the dog.
Anyway... He's a really sweet dog. We have to get him back on track with a few things but nothing big. He seems to have settled into his new digs and is quickly becoming a member of the family.
And it wouldn't be right without posting a pic of Dino and Otis. RIP big guys.
