Hello all,
New guy here. I've lurked for a while without an account, though.
I'm looking to get a C-Body, and I really want a Dodge Royal Monaco, but seeing as those are basically unobtanium, I've been looking for other options. I considered the '64-'66 Imperial LeBaron, but the ones that aren't rusted out are worth a pretty penny.
I don't know if this is the right place, but I've seen this 1976 New Yorker Brougham pop up a few times over the past few years, and now it's for sale again. I was wondering if y'all think this would be a good buy.
Here's the description from the listing:
"1976 Chrysler New Yorker brougham, new tires with about 500 miles, brand new fuel tank/fuel pump, lines, brand new brakes rotors and pads up front, new rear lines, brand new aluminum radiator, new water pump. Very nice car for its age, was purchased off Steve Heitman's auction a few years back. Any other questions call Kieth @[redacted] he owns the car I’m just posting it for him. Thanks"
I think it has a 400, based on the Lean Burn system.
Overall, it seems really solid.
What do you think?

Forgot to add, I do have experience owning a "classic" car.
I currently have a 1980 AMC Eagle Limited wagon (which I'm looking to sell).
 
"classic" has lots of meanings...

Example: My ex-wife tried to kill me after I dropped a large hammer on her while she was sleeping. She called the police, but I was
running like a crazed weasel on drugs so she ended up calling the cops on me as she could not catch me. Long story short: I faked my
own death, cut my hair and skipped out and now live in Guam. I now work for the police as an "advisor", changed my name to Corky Aldous Skittles
and live near the coast. The lax laws here are in my favor, so I doubt I'll ever have to face getting extradited back to the USA.
 
Nice looking car, is it what you want tho? Will it be the one that when walking away you turn back for a look thinking how cool or great looking it is? do you have any intelligent trust worthy old car experienced connections or friends?
New Yorkers are great cars, with knowledge, some skill and patients easy to deal with. The Auto temp A/C will be the hardest to deal with, but you may not care if it works. The wiper arm bushing is a common repair and luckily can now be repaired due to one of our members here reproducing the part needed. If and when the lean burn goes out, the ignition system can be easily swapped to the prior generation ignition system. A good tuning on the engine not using the book specs but what the engine wants goes a long way. Suspension and steering parts are still available last I checked. Driveline is pretty bullet proof, regular maintence is all that is needed, by now the U-j=oints will need changing if they haven't been recently. You will need to remember to buy engine oil with Zinc for classic cars, Lucas, Penn Grade, Castrol GTX Classic etc..
Look over the electrical, check all the switches and lights etc..
Plenty more to list on owning a classic, but you have come to the right place to ask your questions.

There is another '76 New Yorker pretty similar to it that I like a bit more. It's $2,000 more expensive, which might be a deal-breaker, but it has 20,000 less miles, doesn't have all those replacement parts, and is painted in the infamous Golden Fawn (yes, I actually like the color). It doesn't have Rallye wheels, but that's fine. It's almost more common to see C-Bodies with them than with hubcaps now! It has some sign of sitting, but not nearly as many as the darker brown one. So I don't know.

No brainer for me on what car I would choose. The Golden fawn looks very well cared for. Do you have the for sale listing?

Yeah, here you go.
The price on this one is higher, but maintenance on the brown one might be pretty expensive, too.
 
The lighter colored one would be my choice. It looks much more taken care of, interior alot cleaner. Under hood on the dark one has alot of surface rust on components, been in moisture. It is a personal choice and what you can afford. Good luck.
 
If you want cheap have these 78 $1500 bucks needs a roof save but 440 and 70,00 miles. This is last time I, am going to ty to sell. Next month I ,ll start parting it. Thanks, but no thanks. I'm nowhere near California (although I'm near Apple Valley, Minnesota :lol:).
It does look somewhat nice, and maybe I'd consider it if I was closer.
