Been detailing the engine compartment on my '68 300 with the 440. The same thermostat has been in there for at least 30 years and works fine. I've read some discussion here about crap new thermostats. Wondering if I should just leave mine alone. I haven't taken it or the housing off. The aluminum housing outside was a little corroded, but cleaned up pretty well. Or should I just put in a new RobertShaw or Eldebrock 180 thermostat and housing anyway, while things a easily accessible? I'm thinking replacement, but wonder about experience and thoughts of the group.
Thanks.

I would keep the old one. Many of the new ones fail or aren't accurate right out of the box.

You might put a new quality t-stat in the trunk with a new gasket, for good measure. With a 3/8" drive ratchet, extersion, and deep-welll socket. Maybe a gasket scraper, too?

Motor on,

Thank you for the responses. I will be happy to leave good enough alone. You saved me time and money too!
