Joined here not too long ago, lots of good info and folks around here. Just got my car on the road yesterday. Spent about 5 hours cleaning/washing/waxing it up. Got about 50 miles on the books already. Yes, I don't like the wheels either but the stockers are toast. My speedo cable is good but (verified by drill) so do I need to swap out something in the tailshaft now?

I tested the cable with a drill and it's functional, however when plugged in the trans I got nothing

It could be as simple as your speedometer adapter being mis clocked? The number of teeth on the gear needs to correspond to the number on the adapter.

As long as you're down in that area, you might carefully remove the adapter housing and the driven gear inside of it, which is what the square end of the cable indexes with. Also shine a light into the tailshaft housing to look at the drive gear, held to the output shaft of the transmission. ONE or both of them could just be worn and not touching each other. Count the teeth on the driven gear and install the adapter in the position for that number of teeth as per the Chrysler service manual. If the driven gear is worn, a transmission shop could probably supply you with one of the same number of teeth for a TorqueFlite.

What size tires are on the car now?

I'll have to go under and check everything again, hopefully it's that simple! Thanks for all the replies
