OK, I've been thru the welcome forum, and now I'm ready for my first question. I hope this ends up in the right place.
We're talking about a 67 Plymouth sport fury, currently has a 318. I'm going for a kind of resto mod / sleeper.
My mechanical mentor says I'm barking up the wrong tree trying to bring an old 440 up to the 21st century. (fuel injected turbo, around 500 + ).
He said rather then go thru the trouble of making an old 440 run like a new engine, it would be easier and cheaper to go with a new 5.7 truck engine with all the stuff already on it, much less headache since I'm not trying to do a concurs.
So, I've started looking around for an engine but I'm kinda lost in all the new/old/rebuilt/crate etc. engines. Suggestions welcome please.
If I should be putting this in some other forum or starting a new one let know that also.
Have a good one. Cheers from the White Mountains of Arizona.

Naturally aspirated 440 is capable of the 500 hp you are looking for, AND you wont need the computer interface or all of the sensors to make the engine run and the transmission talk to it. But if you are going to go the late model route you need to purchase a donor vehicle rather than just buying a cut-out from the salvage yard as you are going to need all the misc. parts to make this work. Your best bet would be to purchase a 2005 or newer 5.7, use the SRT exhaust manifolds ( USED $150 - $200), use the 6.4 cam, buy it new from Mopar for around $65. Purchase a custom tune $500 for the computer ( which you will probably need anyway to accommodate for the different tire sizes) With some tuning you should get into the 430 to 450 horse range. A Turbo set up will be an additional $1500 to ??? depending on turbo size and how far you want to go horsepower wise, bottom end is probably good to 550 hp but after that with the cast crank and powdered metal rods your going to need an upgrade. OH and you will need the late model electric fuel pump in the tank and the return line.

I love 440's but I'm a carburetor type of guy. I think you could do a turbo 440 for less money, but I've never priced it out. Would be cool either way in the car you mentioned.

You can easily make a 440 a 500/500. That means boring and stroking it to 500 inches and it wil make 500 hp with just a carburetor on pump gas.
Don't let anybody talk you into a Rube Goldberg solution to get 500 hp. You can get it with what you have.

Thanks for the ideas so far. I would really rather have the naturally aspirated 440 myself, but I failed to mention I live in the White Mountains of Arizona. I'm up over 6500 feet. Naturally aspirated is kinda rough to work with up here. I also go down to Tucson and Phoenix often and the EFI handles the altitude changes automatically. If not for that I wouldn't even consider EFI.

Commando, thanks for the suggestion. I must admit I don't know much about FAST EFI, but I sure know how to google and learn about it.
Have a good one.

A member here, Stormer (Ross) did FAST EFI setup. If we can get his attention for five minutes, he can help.
