This is a joke, right? Really?

okay i know it is not a 76 did so looking it is a 75 but is a newport or a new yorker?

oh and i am sorry i am a Jeep and A-body guy so no i did not know what year it was and there is not much of a differace between the newport and the new yorker

Looks to clean for a "smasher" to me. I went to a local auction in my hometown a few months back. There was a 70's Full size Dodge Royal Monaco (I believe) wagon there. Lots of derby guys present. This thing ran and drove. Of course it needed a tune up, but regardless. It was green, ugly, and I wanted it. The local derby guys have deep pockets....I bowed out at $1,250.00. Now it sits in a yard waiting for its demise.

Deep pockets to crash a car? I never understood these guys

I must admit, I have derbied the hell out of some stuff......but always on a shoestring budget. I don't understand it either. Some of these guys spend 1000+ on a car then put another 2-3000 into it....all to win 800 bucks? Hell, I was pissed if I had 250 into a car by the time I derbied it. Well, I guess I did build up a 360 for derby use, but of course that went from car to car. And of course I never took first place. LOL

At least the OP's "buddy" had the heart to save the newport.

The sound of car metal hitting something makes my skin crawl, because I know something is getting damaged

You ain't kidding. But if you think about it, most local fair derbies are just guys trashing rusted out heeps of ****. Any more, its mainly 80's chevys and ford crown vics. Old cars are getting too expensive to buy for the local small town shows. There are millions of vics, impalas, etc from the 80's. I do still cringe when I see some really clean old iron trashed in the ring......I can only hope that all the interior and trim was pulled and at least tried to sell. But it seems that no one ever wants to buy. I have boxes and boxes of stripped parts that I can't unload, but don't have the heart to throw away either.
