The people spoke. Good on them deciding their own destiny. They sent the Presidents buddies packing.

"CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Workers at a Volkswagen factory in Tennessee have voted against union representation, a devastating loss that derails the United Auto Workers union's effort to organize Southern factories."

"Organizing a Southern plant is so crucial to the union that UAW President Bob King told workers in a speech that the union has no long-term future without it." :yaayy:

Double that. The news networks actually went and dug up some Union guy from sterling heights Michigan that said he was Personally offended by the vote. He advised the Volkswagon crowd to come up there (sterling heights) and see how a real shop works. The UAW killed the Industry, got free money from the GOVT, and took over the balance of the companies, and kicked out the stockholders. Now, that is very similar to What Hitler did in 1934 in Germany.

The pendulum has swung against unions in NA. In this case they had an up hill battle. VW was a hard nut to crack since they likely had a good corporate culture, mature HR practices and decent compensation.

The UAW can't hide from the joint responsibility of building mediocre cars and crap from the 70' until recently. Overpaid, underworked,
and totally ok with low quality design and assembly. I remember pulling a beer can out from behind a door panel in a 73' Impala in 1975 due to a rattle complaint. it was With a note saying, at least in ain't a dodge! This car had not been apart since built.

Actually, the Volkswagen management was fully supportive of the union coming in. Seems like they wanted the operation to be a more "European-like collaborative environment ." I think this fact is a big part of the story, but no one is reporting it - not even Fox News.

That plus the fact that there was unprecedented subtle interference by the State's politicians threatening all kinds of dire consequences should the Union be approved.

I suspect this might be the main reason the vote was as close as it was. Most people prefer the status quo but resent being told how to think.
