[h=2]1978 Plymouth Fury - $2450 (Broadway, NC)[/h]440 Engine...Runs and Drives. Old town of Broadway police car. Please call 919-902-0257

I look at that car & all I see is sidewall. What are those 30" tires on 12" wheels?

Those are wheels and tires the way I've been saying all along should look like.
BIG FAT MEATY BW's, steelies, hubcaps. Period.

That is what is called "normal", Stormer. As in - none of the 20" and more nonsense with rubber-band tires that pass for "cool" in this decade. See, tires used to have real sidewalls and a sensible profile, for longevity, ride comfort, and load capability. So, what you see on this '78 is what a car like ours are supposed to look like.

BTW, the wheel is a 15" cop, and the tire is likely a 235-70R15, or perhaps a 235-60R15.

Where are the air cleaner snorkels in the picture? No/missing spotlight.......but I may call on this one...should not with just purchasing my "66 Toronado.

Nice find! I need a warehouse and a winning lotto ticket with all of my wants.

Kool car, I think that's just an air cleaner lid without the base.

I am thinking more like 75's, those are tall. Remember, the 235 is in Millimeters across the tread and the 70 / 60 is the the sidewall percentage to the tread width.

If I didn't get my 69 CHP car i would have been looking for one of the 78's, I have always liked that series.

This car was a special order and may have been a detective car or Chief, I'd want to see paperwork to back up the police claim.

These are the kinds of cars they liked to crush in every second police spoof movie of the late 70s-80s, a wonder there's still some left over. I have to admit I never cared for these models, but they remaining ones still should be preserved by someone.

I remember seeing a few of these used as cop cars around here back in the day. They also used the Ford LTD II's as well, but the majority of the cop cars were either R-bodies or Ford LTD (non II's) and Chevy Caprices.
This B-body is similar to the '71 & up Coronet. I actually saw a nice early seventies Coronet survivor last summer. I also saw a '77-ish LTD II 2-door being stripped in some guy's driveway. At first I thought he was building a dirt track stock car like runs at Winnipeg Speedway:yaayy:, but after a few weeks it became apparent that it was just going to be a derby car.:(
Yeah, an awful lot of the B-bodies from the late '70's were destroyed, even the 2-door versions. I guess nobody thought that they were worth saving. Too bad really.

The correct tire for that car would be G78-15's....

Even for the police model? It wouldnt have been H or L?
That was for the police model.
It's what I found from two different sources by Googling so it's not etched in concrete.
I couldn't find any literature to confirm or dispute it.

The cop used a lower profile tire. They were G70-R15 Goodyear radials from the factory. I know a pretty good expert on cop stuff locally. I'm gonna see if I can confirm that.

Dave, and whoever else, 235 is the section width in millimeters, the 70 or 60 is the aspect ratio of the sidewall VS the Section width...............

That's the Tire Makers Association Standard for Radial Tires.

As for this Fury Cop car, YES, I have always wanted a '76-'78 B Body 440 Police Package!

I know in 1970 they went from the 8.55x15 to H-78, I was told by Goodyear (the company not the local tire shop) that these were the same exact tire but with the new nomenclature.

Those were Bias ply tires, when Radials came out they were "metric" so the 235 would have been the width, not sure if they were 78s or other.
