Seen yesterday at Indy Cylinder Head Show. 383/727. I believe asking price was ~14 K. Looked like nice driver.

14K? That's a deal in todays market! Looks like a very nice clean ride.

I don't think so - my understanding of the codes for that time is that October November and December are designated as A B C in the tag, and that the subsequent months Jan - September are 1 - 9.

I could be wrong, and if so, that car is a VERY early production version.

Your understand of the coding is true.

Model year 1966 production started in August (indicated by 8 in the SPD) of 1965 and ended in July (indicated by a 7) of 1966. The first part of the model year is August through December of the calendar year prior to the model year. Meaning model year 1966 production starts in calendar year August 1965, model year 1967 starts in August 1966, model year 1968 starts in August 1967 and so on.

A late September build, in this case 920 or September 20th, would be toward the end of the second month of production. Mid first quarter early but not particularly VERY early such as the first week of production.

Here's a question, FF1 is listed as a spring special color, but this car was built much earlier, how does that happen? Or, was spring special just a marketing ploy?

Nice car btw, I have it's twin in storage.

Color codes and the respective shades change over time.

Here's a reference showing FF1 Pale Blue Poly as a spring of 1965 color. FF1 was light green poly for model year 1966.
