Up for sale is this rare hard to find Mopar steering coupler clamp Part #2996935. This auction is for the spring wire retaining clamp only ( Steering coupler, cover and seal are NOT included and are shown to show clamp installed). This factory designed piece was required to be installed as per Mopar Dodge Chrysler Plymouth Technical Service Bulletin No. D69-19-4 in all vehicles using the 3 inch overall length steering coupler whenever thesteering column or steering box was "disturbed for any reason." This was due to the tendency and frequency of the crimped on steering coupler seal cover to come loose whenever the cover was crimped on outside the factory. Many cars were coming back to the dealership for service and the technicians were having a difficult time securing the sealcover to coupler due to the small retaining tabs. This created an unsafe condition and allowed the seal to come loose and grit and water to enter the coupler. This ingenious clamp corrects this problem so well that the seal and cover are held rigidly without moving even before seal cover tabs are crimped over. Clamp installs without removing coupler from car and requires no tools to install,although a hammer or pry tool may ease installation because they are a tight factory fit, especially over new rubber seal and seal cover. Once again reference to a clip to a half *** lazy way to fix a steering coupler.

Pull the column and fix it right!!

I like the clip idea. I've fought and fought to get my cover to stay..... I don't see it as a cop out, or a lazy mechanic thing.....
 
I stand by my statement!. If you take your time you can put this cover on and it will not come off.
I even double checked mine and I could not pry it off with a screwdriver, it would have taken a hammer to remove (as I had to with the original one).

The tabs were pre bent in the middle and the assembly clamped together with a couple c-clamps.
With a flat tip punch the tabs were driven in. Even as I was doing this I had realized I had pinched one of the tabs under the housing, I had already done some of the tabs and chose to leave it as I didn't see an easy way to back up.

This assembly isn't coming apart!

I picked up 2 myself. If you have a system for clamping these back together without them coming apart I would love to hear about it. I and MANY others haven't had much luck with them.

I guess the explanation in two different posts isn't clear enough, time to make a video.
