Looking for recommendations on an OBD-1 scanner for the new to me 95 Buick Roadmaster Limited.
Just had a new set of tires put on it and once in a while, the service engine soon light comes on (and disappears a few minutes later).

I put 5 Hankook H724s on it and they made a great improvement.
Yes, that’s Mr. Bill in the rear window.

Not sure if this is exactly true but I found this….. You do not need a scan tool to read the codes on this vehicle, as long as the vehicle is equipped with Auto Climate control. I think all Buick B bodies came with this and only the Chevys had the manual system. AllAre the pre-'96 models OBD1 or OBD2? codes can be read from the display in the center of the dash.

Wow, that's a flashback! I haven't seen a OBD1 code tool for decades. Jump the ALDL and count the flashes. It will flash code 12 and then the trouble code followed by code 12.

I saw a video recently, pretty sure a dodge, that you could get the codes by turning the car to run then off 3 times and a light would flash. Check code list to see what the number of flashes.

Don’t start just turn to run. Something like that, I’m probably forgetting something though.

I am going to have to dig out my old ALDL scanner. I had used it on the 95 Suburban that I had. I am aware of the paperclip method.

Nope, Off, on, off, on, off, on and leave on and count the number of times the check eng. light flashes for each code/problem.

Rog, I figured I didn’t have it exactly right. Planning to buy an OBD II scanner.

Maybe the Bluescanner something like that, that Scotty Kilmer recommended a few years ago.

That's what works for my 94 Caravan, I can't speak if that works for other Marques that's OBD1's though?

From what I have learned regarding obd1 for GM products is that there is a way to get the codes by using a paperclip between 2 terminals. I will look into this more.

I have seen that. Reviews state that the device is nothing more than a paperclip.
While in a nice package, it appears as a paperclip with a connector.
It's dummy proof. Not a bad idea for some people that can't figure the paper clip thing out. I used to sell a little card with metal tabs that did the same thing but that was 20 years ago. Thexton had a #378 that did it as well. Otc 7739, OEMtools 25147 to name a couple more.
