Deployed dad makes surprise return — disguised as catcher while daughter throws first pitch

Turn on the water works ... well it brought a tear of joy to my eye and heart for the little girl anyway

Yes. Moments like those are heartwarming.
Unfortunately, it has become a selfish, self-promoting competition on who can post the most "heartwarming" return of a soldier on youtube. A day doesn't go by without seeing yet another one or two.
I am thrilled for the children and their families for the safe return home of the soldier but it can be a private moment, too.

What's the next "going viral" heartwarming fad going to be?
Posting a youtube video of someones wife coming out of a coma??

Yep, sign of the times and us older guys are way out of touch and I see it as a private moment also.

Did you ever see the episode that they have on "Survivor" every season where they bring family member(s) to the island, jungle, etc. and everyone is crying and sniveling because they haven't seen them in what....... THREE FN WEEKS!!!!! Get the F out of here!!!! LOL!!!!

Sometimes I feel that a serviceman or woman can't arrive safely back without the family making an obligatory cliche of it. If everyone does it, it's not special anymore. Just a competition. They deserve better. Me? I'd be on my hands and knees thanking God....

When I came back we had a General waiting on the tarmac with a guide-on bearer with an American flag and he shook every single Soldier's hand.......that was more than enough. After that we (I) just wanted to secure our weapons in the Arms Room and find a beer and my girl. None of my Warfighter's were up for any kind of special appearances.....ever! That kind of action was for REMF's.

I saw that ........so when my daughter comes home from Idaho to visit I can expect a huge parade or a fire truck and police car escort? :icon_rolleyes:

And season tickets and a trip to the White House for a meet and greet with your buddy.

Then they wouldnt have put on a big production. Him walking in the front door would have gotten the same emotion from her and a more real one instead of in front of 25,000 people. Its not about that anymore

You dont think there was a more inaccurate display of feelings there than compared to him walking in the front door while the family was at the dinner table?

Of course she is sincere but everyone acts different in front of 25,000 people. It is a moment that should be left private for loved ones to cherish.

I've seen enough of them......she looks sincere.
Absolutely. But she's being used by her family for show boating. Shameful.
Tomorrow, we'll see another family hoping to top that and have their staged scene go viral and make Good Morning America.
Then the talking heads give their mandatory "Oh, that is so sweet...".

No we havent, but it should stop..... We all know the ticker tape parade in New York of the GI's homecoming after WWII....Nothing can top that and THAT was awe inspiring. What takes place these days is a "look at me" gesture.

Even though I don't care for this there is another side of it that really bugs me. Why is this guy picked out of dozens of men returning back and forth every week. What, they don't rank the same treatment as an equal among military men?
