Is there a special socket to remove the oil pressure switch, on a 1978 Newport with a 400... idiot light type of switch.
Thank you.

Yes they sell them, and you can guess the name

Yes, there is a special socket. A good parts store should have one.

I'm pretty sure the size is 1 1/6".

Yes, there is a specific socket for the light type sending unit, or switch, although you can sometimes get away with a 12-point socket that loosely fits. Several brands are available. Lisle makes a nice one, # 13200.

I have two, shown in the following image. One is an SK #4488, and the other is unbranded other than "USA".

You can see the socket opening is shaped specifically for the shape of the sending units.

The SK fits both the earlier style which is a bit smaller (1"), and the later and aftermarket style (1-1/16").

Both will also work with the 1979 and later switch that controls the indicator light and power to the electric choke assist:

Ok thank you for the very detailed reply Vannth. You are correct that my aftermarket replacement switch is 1 1/16" and the O.E. , I'm guessing it's the original, is 1".
I'll try a 12 point 1".
