Howdy,

I am replacing my 727 Pan gasket soon and I got the OEM Mopar gasket thats plastic with the o- rings.

Looking to see if anyone has tips for a leak free install other than making sure the boltholes in the pan are flat. I got some longer bolts because the gasket is a tad thicker.

I am mainly thinking... what are the torque specs, is there any differences? Should i do about 100 to 110 INCH LBS? Do I put a very light coat of RTV on?

Just some questions so I can be successful without a leak! Thank you all!

No RTV. Clean, flat surfaces. Be careful those longer bolts don't bottom out. I don't think you need longer bolts. I reused what was there. The gasket isn't that much thicker.

I have no idea on torque. I just use a 1/4" rachet and snug.

Replace the selector shaft bushing and dipstick tube oring while you are in there. The two front bolts at the bell housing is where you can bottom out easy, before installing pan make sure all surfaces are clean, clean and dry, install all the bolts checking for depth and clean threads. Install pan and gasket, slowly tighten in criss cross pattern, as in each bolt gets a little torque at a time, multiple times as you go.

Replace the selector shaft bushing and dipstick tube oring while you are in there.
^This^ Just a few bolts and the valve body is out and the selector shaft seal is much easier to change. The seal on the throttle shaft in the valve body should be changed too.

Thank you. My pan seems to be pretty beat up too so for now it got an $8 felpro fromnthe parts store and when I can get a new pan (maybe alu) ill put the better gasket on as well!

I have purchased the TCI 127900 pan and installed it in Elwood, my 68 Fury II 4 door sedan and really like it. The shifter seals (for the selector and the throttle shaft) were replaced too.
I also installed a Transgo shift kit.
What I did is shown in my project thread here:
