I had a friend e-mail me this video I thought the old footage was cool. It show a 1950 Formula 1 pit stop at Indiy and then the modern day pit stop. http://coolmaterial.com/video/formu...297068693&mc_cid=1f4b5dad41&mc_eid=74f73e1664

Formula 1 and Indy never put value in pit stops, they just figured that everybody had to make them so there was no rush.

Nascar for years (50's into the 60's) was already doing choreographed pitstops and knew that it can make a difference.

The Wood Brothers were probably best known for this and in 1965 were asked to pit an Indy team, everybody laughed at first but that team went on to win. Next year nobaody was laughing, they all were doing it.

I crewed several times on a NASCAR team, (rear tire changer), in 88/89. We thought 20 sec stops was doing good then.
It was before the pit speed limits were in place and being on my knees with race cars going by at 130 MPH just a few feet away was pretty intense. Glad I was able to get older and wiser.

Wow, that sounds very cool!

He would be in his driveway mumbling about not understanding the reason for racing or something like that. LOL.
