Please say a prayer for me tonight as I am still stuck in GM transmission hell for the second weekend in a row. I can't get a good clearance on the 3-4 clutch, I'm so aggravated it actually was a break to fix the washing machine, that and the need to keep Mrs bigblockdodge happy. Wish me luck rrrrrrrrggghhh!!!!! IMG_20140104_214506_984.jpg

Man I hate it when little things like that set you back. I know when I was rebuilding my NP205 transfer case, and my NV4500 5 speed tranny...I had plenty of set backs. Little things you don't think of, or forget, and you have to either wait for parts....or it takes a lot longer then anticipated. Setting end play "properly" can take a lot of time....but better to take the time and do it right...then say "Good enough" and then end up trashing the tranny in a couple years.

What seems to be the cause of the issue? With the Torqueflites I have rebuilt, they have a variety of selective spacer rings to get the clearance right. With your GM trans, are you having issues getting the right thickness of rings, or is it a fundamentally different setup somehow? I might be able to get a variety of spacer rings from a used transmission parts shop called Cal-Tex out here in California if you send me the model and year transmission you are working on.

I have crawled out of GM trans hell got my clearance at .050 probably unorthodox or the hard way. The input shaft/drum combo had to be replaced so that threw off the ring and piston set, didn't want to take out any frictions because the 3-4 is a weak spot, mooched some different combos from local trans shop, I'm sure if I could pick off a shelf of all that are availible it would be easier, I finally ended up shortening the fingers on the 3-4 piston and machining a lip off the pressure plate. Lot of workfor something I don't really care about its a good thing he is a good friend.

I think the bunny pulled it off... He must have been using all 4 lucky wabbits feet for ya... :icon_thumright:
