So if I need to remove the AC compressor for some reason, is it possible to just unbolt the bracketry and "set it aside" like on newer cars, or do I have to evacuate the system and physically unbolt all of the connecting tubing, etc.? It seems like all of the connections are hard lines . . .

Thank you!

It all depends on how much you need to move it. If you are replacing a water pump or something, you should be able to lift it up a few inches without losing your freon.
You should find that info in your FSM.

It will pivot upwards a little. You may need to undo the mounting bolts for the hard line that runs along the driver side of the intake manifold to permit a bit of movement.
