Whenever I step on the brakes, I hear what sounds like air hissing, and the idle picks up. But this only happens when I step on the brake.
If the diaphragm in the booster was punctured, wouldn't it hiss at all times?
The engine idles great and has great vacuum.
It's a 63 413, so no emissions stuff.

Any help would be great!

its gotta be something with the booster. the booster has a vacuum line to intake manifold,, and I guess you are letting in air = idle up.

Yep, a failing booster will whistle. I just had mine rebuilt locally since I couldn't find one anywhere. The one from Summit DOES NOT fit a 72 Imperial even though their website says it does.

I think that there are two boosters available for my car. I have to find out which is the correct one.

Can anyone confirm if the check valve on this booster is internal and not easily accessible?

I took of the fitting from the rubber line on the booster, but nothing was behind it.

I also hear what appears to be air when I step on the accelerator.
