Quick question on Vin sequences

I have a 1965 Plymouth sport fury hardtop.
the vin is P452281452...…..
so P = Plymouth 8 cylinder
4 = sport fury
5 = 1965
2 = detriot, Michigan
and the sequence is 281,452.....and if they started at 100001 then this car would be 181,451.
but my question is, they only produced 38,348 hardtops so how do you get close, not perfect, but close to where your car lies in the sequence of cars produced ?

You don’t!

The last 6 numbers were mixed at the plant for all bodies they make. Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler, Valiant, etc. then wagon, convert, 4 door, 2 door.

Then the cars are not built in VIN order.

It is a sequence number. Represents all cars coming off the line. They may have made 1000 New Yorkers and 2000 Newports right ahead of your car and 3000 Polaras after your car. Then as stampings pile back up for Chrysler's again, back to Newports. There are also sub-assembly sections where the car is pulled off for a complicated step as to not slow the main line down then put back in after this step for finishing. It becomes very random and dependent on parts supply.

Also take a look at your build plate for the scheduled production date. I've found that they match up pretty well with the last six of the VIN (i.e. - later build date, higher VIN).

I large VINs are sequential, yes not exact. Same with schedule build dates, in large they are close.

Look at your data plate on the firewall.
There should be a "SO" or Scheduled Order date on it.

Yes. The scheduled production date is on the broadcast sheet.
