i bought galvanized steel 14 gauge wire from lowes and made the coils myself, anyone think these will be a problem, a little thicker than than old ones not by much if it is not strong enough any suggestions on what to use

Sounds fine to me. This is something I'd do, given most lower hoses no longer have the spring. Stainless steel wire would be better IMO, but the gal should be fine - just check for any rust every now and then.

Yea I am a little concerned about the wire because it doesn't seem a strong as the original but i squeezed the tube and it didnt bend might try to find something stronger.

Can't use regular wire, galvanized, stainless, or otherwise.
The coil has to be made out of spring steel.
Put your hand across the coiled soft steel wire and press down. It will collapse and stay that way.
Do it to a spring. It will collapse and bounce back.

What do you suggest that I could buy to make it myself, I know napa has the ones that go on the outside but only seen 5/8.

rexus can you put up a link or something to what you used?

confounded new hose doesn't have a spring in it . . .

If you are having a bad time with lower hose collapsing at speed radiator might be clogged, I have been down this road.
