So I'm sitting here by the fire and it's raining cats and dogs (about to get slammed by Sandy) and I'm looking thru old Chrysler (what else?!) muscle car ads.....Superbees, Roadrunners, Coronet RTs...and finally the coolest IMHO....the Dodge Charger RT ads........

......then I get a call from a friend who just bought the new Dodge Dart.......and it has digital flowers growing around the speedometer in an attempt to keep the driver aware of the environment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DODGE DART.jpg

can someone tell me WTF just happened here!?

I just gotta say that I am extremely envious of you guys who were there during that period and experienced buying them factory badass mopars brand spanking new. I doubt we will ever see a "balls to the walls" time like that again.

We didn't know what we had at the time. We can only enjoy it by looking back at what we had in the past.
You can only have the good old days when the days become old.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of the good old days with my Super Bee and Challenger. I was a teenager when I had them and 21 when I sold the Challenger in 1976.

When he told me that (about the flower thing) and then I looked it up on the Internet I was just about floored.

It's a gimmick that may or may not take off. Chrysler had them back in the day too. 30's there were airflow bodies... 40's they toyed with hidden headlights, automatic transmissions and power brakes.. In the 50's they had things like speedometer indicators that changed color according to your speed.. In the 50's - 60's fins, economy gauges, push button trannys (and even some dash mounted shifters), square steering wheels and see through speedometers..... In the 70's wings and wacky paint.. in the 80's.................................................. K-Cars.............:eek:ops:

..And do your new mopar products down in the USA have the headlight go out on the side of the car that the turn signal is flashing on? I personally think this is one of the DUMBEST things I've ever seen. Yes lets shut off the light closest to the turn, so it's just that much darker as you try and make a turn. Maybe you won't see that pedestrian, or car....:nono:

If this is such a great idea then why did, do, cars have cornering lights...just a bit more light to brighten that turn. Seems light a much better idea to me.

Never heard of that before. We finally have something like cornering lights for a couple years on new models that turn on when making a bend.

For some reason, my 70' Imperial had the brightest corning lights I have ever seen. If I turned right or left the whole area where I was turning into was lit like a baseball field during a night game. One of the attributes I really liked about that car.

Brian, when the headlights are turned on this does not happen. It is only the daytime running light that shuts down when you have your signal on. I know because I have an '06 and a '10. It is actually a bonus during the day because it makes it very obvious to oncoming traffic. This probably wouldn't be necessary if the turn signals were not integrated into the same assembly as the headlight.

It would seem like a headlight is burnt out to me .

The headlights shouldnt even be on in the daytime ....another stupid "safety idea".
