Does anyone know what would prevent my radio from turning on after re-installing it?

A clock repair dictated removal of the ashtray assembly and the radio. After reinstalling the radio will not power up. Took it back out and successfully bench tested it. Put it back in with the idea that I had a bad ground, no luck. Tried a few different grounding sources, no luck. Confirmed 12v on the power connector to the radio and light, no luck. Any ideas?

My Fury has a stud on the radio. A nut holds it to a bar that is grounded. Just a suggestion. Otherwise, you can check the fuse and a meter to your B+ (positive) wire that plugs in if it’s like mine. are the connectors clean?

Just some thoughts.

Make sure that the terminals are engaging within the connector. sometimes they get pushed out or skewed.

On the grounding tip, have you tried running a jumper between the radio case and a good ground?

Also make sure your speakers connections are good. Sometimes the spade connectors get pushed out and you lose the connection.

Thanks guys. All good suggestions. I'm sure I've got ground to the stud (ohmed it out to the frame) and power to the car side of the power lead. I'll check the spade connector to the radio (above the dang clock, out of sight) again. 73Coupe, I'm beginning to think you may be right and that the spade connectors inside the power plastic terminal aren't engaging. That connector required about a hundred pounds of pressure to connect it! I'll try that this morning again.

There's your problem. I'll bet the terminals in the connector aren't meshing. It should slip together fairly easily.

Does the radio light up when you turn on the headlights?
That's another way to see if you have power.
Then check the speaker connection.

Thanks guys, big help. Power connector not fully seated AND the spade connector on the dash speaker kept sliding off while fitting the radio back into place. Couldn’t see it above the clock. Why are the simple things so difficult?

Because they are designed by engineers, not the people who work on them.

Not trying to be disrespectful but the fact is engineers design for fit and form. Very little consideration is provided for servicing in most cases. After being highly involved in the equipment manufacturing business for many years I speak with experience.
