I want to remove my control arms. I was told I need to note my cam settings in the control arms, are detailed pictures good enough. I am a little confused of how they are set. They look straight forward to remove, but I don't want to mess things up things that will cause problems in the re-installation.

Very straight forward, just make a mark as to what spot the cam bolt is facing so when you re-install them, you have your alignment pretty close to where it was, before you drive off to get a proper alignment at the workshop. Other than that, go to town on those buggers!

It isn't difficult to remove them, as long as the cams aren't frozen from rust. Anything you can do to find a point of reference in comparing to the present settings, will work,,so a picture is good too.
One time I set a ruler, pointing straight up in the 12:00 then took a picture of the cam bolt. A C' body should be easy, as you have a lot more room in there. The hardest part is finding the max height of the lobe, and estimate an Imaginary line across the bolt end, that is like the second hand on a clock. close is good enough to get you on the ground.

Thanks guys the suspension is a whole new game for me. As many things have been on this restoration.

If you lose where it is set at put front one, bolt out to tire rear bolt in toward engine, then rotate rear bolt out till camber (tilt at top of tire) stands up almost straight at ride height.

Mike: I highly recommend taking the upper ball joints off before you remove the upper control arms. You may need the stability to get the proper torque to remove them.

Thanks for the tip I've alreaday had them removed but didn't have any luck pressing out the bushings so I can bolt them back in place.

how do you have your car lifted?

by the front crossmember?

I have it up under jacks with a piece of wood between the jack and the frame at the area near the doors It is where the fatory .manual list it as a lift point.

Best place for them. You need every sq. inch of real estate you can muster under the front.
Ideally you should hang the car by the rear bumper but.........
