I have been looking for a station wagon for my fiancé and I believe that I have stumbled across a fake or scam listing.

It’s for a 1961 Chrysler New Yorker hardtop. I had sent the ‘seller’ a message (email) via the website and hadn’t heard from the seller for a couple of weeks, but finally did.

He stated that he was working 16 hours a day, out of the country, but would sell the car to me.

The price he cited was $12.9k including shipping and a 3 day inspection period where if I wasn’t happy with the purchase, he’d have the car picked up at his expense!

The car apparently is in Seattle at the shipping companies storage facility.

I proceeded with the deal and I received another email from ‘the shipping company’.

There was ‘documentation’ on the sale and a contract was included, including details on how to wire the $.

I thought about the entire deal and I believe that it’s a hoax.

The pictures of a car are fabulous.

However, just the shipping would be 1/4 of the purchase price.

I have blocked the ‘seller’ and the ‘shipping company’ and will continue to look for something where there’s a phone number and a more realistic story.

I looked up the address of the shipping address on Google maps and attached a picture of the address.

Here’s the original email:

Hi

I apologize for the delay. I have been swamped at work. Since I'm quite busy with my job and unable to travel back to the States, I have decided to hire a company to ship the car and take care of the sale for me. The shipping & payment part of the transaction will be handled by Pemberley Ltd. The car is now located in their transit warehouse in Seattle, WA because I had a buyer from that area but he canceled the deal due to personal reasons. They have in their custody both the car and the title signed for release, which had been verified by their inspectors and they already gave the go ahead to begin the transaction. The car comes with a large collection of history files, manuals, brochures and receipts.

Regarding the payment, there is a 3 days inspection period available for you once you receive the car in which you have the possibility to do an inspection to any authorized service of your choice before the company will release any money to me. If you decide not to keep it for any reason the car will be sent back to me (free of charge for you) and you will get a full refund with no questions asked. So basically I only receive the money if you are happy about what you are buying.

Please read their how it works webpage on Pemberley Shipping Limited - Courier Services & Delivery Companyand decide if you agree or not.

To be able to start this transaction you need to register on the shipping company's website. Once you are done, I will approve the deal from my account and my agent will contact you in order to go ahead with the purchase.

P.S. You should know that the car will be shipped anywhere within the States at my expense !

Stephen

I thought about all of the particulars and it didn’t add up.
I looked at other station wagon sales and they were 3+ times the cost.
Not offering other payment methods (cashiers check via FedEx or other ways) just made it too good to be true.

It is no doubt scam ,I just contacted a guy name Steven a few weeks ago and he replies yest and asked if still interested and apologized for replying so late said was working over seas 16 hour days Nollblah blah ,anyway I read what your reply said and mine was basically Word for word what yours said except he was paying the shipping, but his M O was exactly the same and same shipping company etc etc outta Seattle, wash. But he was selling a bourget motorcycle

Why would a real seller pay for shipping and grant a three-day inspection period (implying a money-back guarantee)? If it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.

for $12k, it's been said a million times, over and over, if it's too good to be true.

just the shipping would be 1/4 of the purchase price.

Shipping is expensive. That the car is 3/4 of the shipping price is the elephant in the room.

including details on how to wire the $.

All scam prevention missives begin with this "do not wire money".

well it seems our government doesnt giv a **** about its citizens and dont do nothing about us getting ripped off but is there someone that would bust these pieces of **** ,as far as this steven ******* knows i am still interested and would be nice to be able to have this prick busted if possible, does anyone know info about that

It's hopeless.

There's way bigger scams going on daily they have no handle on at all.

YouTube "scammer payback" maybe that perogi guy that runs that channel can help you hes greatest busting scammers of all kinds
