My A-body needs a new under hood and dash harness. I have a same year A-body but it has factory AC. Am I better off to source a non AC harness for my build or continue pulling the AC harness? I can't image that there will be a whole lot of difference.

and before Stan says it, yes I have the FSM.....and no it is not here at the house with me.

the donor car has a very clean harness without a single cut wire and it's in really good shape.

heres a photo since everyone likes photos.....

In my opinion, take out the donor harness and use it, I can not imagine that having a few extra wires will matter. If you don't uses it, bag it identify it and then sell it. :shruggy:

Yeah, I think I will give it a whirl. I'll just finish removing regardless, like you say it can be sold. I was just wondering if anyone had done this sort of swap with a mopar before.

On the under hood harness check for marker and turn light placement as they change from year to model. Also if the years are different enough you may have issues between electronic ignition and non along with the difference in voltage regulators and alternators.

If the only difference is AC or no AC I see no reason the AC harnesses shouldn't work.
Under the hood there is the addition of one wire for the compressor.
Under the dash you may need to tinker with power for the fan, just compare the two before you try to install the replacement, a meter might help in checking.

Funny, I was doing the opposite to my old 69 Sport Fury Vert.. my original main harness was a tad cooked and the donor car a 70 Sport Fury that was loaded, I was planning on taking out the complete harness and all the power accessories and put it in the 69. Well that never happened but the new 69 I just got is loaded so I don't need to do that any more. OH well !!!

Good point Alan !!! mis-wiring could cause much bigger problems !!!
:campfire:

Markers and turns are identical.

They are both 74 dodge darts. Only difference is the two door I am fixing up was a slant six three speed, non AC car. The donor car is a four door V8, auto, AC car. But I am turning the two door into a big block, auto car. So the difference is AC and obviously some wires will need to be altered for the big block. But, I did notice they both had the same voltage regulator and the good V8 harness has electronic ignition which will be carried over. I did notice that the donor car had wires to the blower motor on the engine side where as the non AC car did not. Also, the donor car has a three speed wiper motor, but I will just move that with the car as well. I will have to see if the blower motor can be swapped over too, if I bother with the HVAC since it's a big block swap. Most of the dash out of the donor car is getting swapped over as well since it's in much nicer condition. I just remembered, I need to get the wiring going to the neutral safety switch on the auto as well.

Don't forget the ground wires ..

:eek:ops: I did once lol so much for my years & years & years of extensive training in electrical wiring. :head_smack:

The Small Block harness should work on the big block.

I had two 1967 Valiants, the headlight harnesses were a little different although both should have been the same. Some of the ground wires were in different places, long as they are there you should be good, you just might need to drill a hole where it needs to be.

I got the harness replaced from the firewall forward today. Tomorrow I will replace the dash harness. Then I am done, this crap sucks.
