So you wanted to be a owner operator

What ever happened to the $2600 for ah DYI in frame major on ah 350 COME APART? Ah little time on you back with ah torq wrench mulitaplyer and I'm good for another couple yearz. Hardest part of that re-build iz makin' sure you don't cut the new "O" Ringz when you seat the new sleavez. Piece-A-Cake, Jer---ME THINKEST ME GLAD ME NOT OUT THERE ANYMORE

Jer you would be shocked. Cummins acts like they never made the N series engines but they reluctantly produce parts for, still cheaper than yellow paint but big sticker shock over 10-15 years ago.
The mains are not that bad torque wise. The head bolts are a beast, like 380#. Torquing fasteners is where CATs shine 120# plus eight flats, torque with a air impact.

Alright back together. Ended up having a whole new short side driveshaft built.

When I waz out there and chasin' hard, I caculated that I needed $600 per day gross revinue to keep beans in the pot. $200 went rite out the exhaust, $200 to the Tractor for the inevanable repairs AND the Lone Ranger, and $200 to the house hold. And fuel then waz 'bout .50 per gallon in the summer , and #1 would average $1.25- $1.40. from September thru' April. And you could expect 4 MPG down hill with a tail wind, and 3 MPG in the hills and or with a cross wind. And coils paid $2.00 ah 100 and we won't even talk about "Sticks", Jer

I remember when an o/o explained to me how if the load didn't pay per mile at least the cost of one gallon of diesel, you lost less money by letting the tractor sit there.
Of course, this was when Diesel was well under a buck.
Can't imagine ANY load paying even close to 1/2 the cost of one gallon today.

Stan. You wanna Finger Print 45 Bushell after haulin' all nite draggin' ah 53' Reefer with ah load of Garbage. Show up for ah 06:00 apointmet with a palited and shrink wrapped load and have the recieving dock forman tell you they want it on THEIR PALLETS IN A DIFFERENT BLOCK PATTERN THEN IT IZ ON THE PALLETS THAT 45 BUSHEL LOAD IZ SITTING ON OR TAKE IT BACK. I found our real quick out there what to haul and what not to haul. Hell Man, I even draw a deal breaker distinsion between tarped loadz and none tarped loadz after hauling a tarped load of Massey Furguson 9' tractor axels from Detroit to Des Moines and distroying $500 worth of new tarps before I'd run 50 miles and the SOB'z in Des Moines stacked 'um ourside in a rainin',freezin' *** blizzard. I carried 2 milatary shelter halfs with me for a year after that because the company owners manual said I needed TWO TARPS BUT THEY DIDN'T SPESIFY THE SIZE. HE.HE.HE. When they dispached me into a place ti Toledo that year later I can only laugh in remembering how the crap hit the fan when they learned my tarpz were 4'X6' with triangle endz on 'um. But that another story, Jer

Commercial Food Service!!
Trailer hand stacked floor to ceiling, end to end.
All hand delivered (inside delivery) on a two wheeler, up and down a ramp hanging off the back of the trailer.

WhyTF is he smiling???

'cause that's the stuff that "fell off the truck".
Had a friend whose dad worked for Land O Lakes, a dairy company, and his load was stacked by an idiot, and it fell on top of him when he opened the door of the trailer, giving him a much earlier retirement than he had anticipated.

AND.... They have to collect money from the customer too.

Ya, it's not the most glamorous of driving jobs. 3 of my trucks are 8 pallet and 2 are 6 pallet, so it's not that bad for us. And we do not hand stack anything. They go into the trucks on pallets, but once they get to the stop, if no forklift is available, hand unloading onto two-wheelers and into the coolers it is. And yes, my guys collect from my customers.
