Trying to cleanup the wiring on a 77 Newport with auto temp 2 a/c. Noticed the a/c relay (yellow wire black stripe) is a spiced connection from before or after (black wire white stripe) the fuse panel. It's crimped on with a large yellow crimp connector. There is another red wire w/ an inline fuse on a red wire crimped before or after the fuse panel also. This seams to run to a connector plug on the right side of the car that I've associated with the climate control. My questions are: is anyone else seeing this on their auto temp 2 equipped cars? Specifically crimped tie-ins). If not where are you seeing these connections tie-in? Would it be common for the factory to do this (as I see no other place these wires could be connected in the harness)? Could this be a recall fix?

That's my thought but I can't find where the old connections would have been - if it was done to by-pass line breaks. The only place these connections could have been tied in are where they are tied in now. Seems tike the a/c system might have been added after the car was sold? It's just strange. It's like a tree, I can see layers of work: Trailer brake system added and deleted, aftermarket radio added (constant power pillaged from clock), Radar detector added, tied in from before the fuse block. All these additions and deletions have the fingerprints of a weekend mechanic/electrician. But these connections are different. Would a auto temp 2 system been installed without a/c?

AutoTemp II IS the A.C. & heater system together as one unit.
No such thing as an AutoTemp II heater system.

Most likely the cantankerous ATC II defeated yet another mechanic and half assed work arounds were tried.

Ya I imagine. It looks like something done early in this cars history. I was just messing with it again and connected the fan directly to the battery using some testing leads and it fired up fine. Hooked it back up again, plugged in the Temp 2 control unit (I have the dash and dash pad removed) and started the motor. The fan kicked on, the vacuum controlled doors closed and it seemed to be working fine now. I don't know what I did but its alive again. I'm going to solder and sleeve the crimped connections to clean things up but it seems to be working again. The only thing I can think of is that fan connection didn't seem pushed in far enough but that seems too simple. Either way. Thanks for the help.
