Ok, I'm not talking about your Sony Play Station folks..:Groaner:

Has anyone done the adjustment.

My gear seems to have a bit of dead play in the center and I would like to tighten it up.

Anyone done this and what has been the experience?

usually uou just losen the nut holding the worm gear and use screwdriver to snug up the worm gear if worn..caution do not tighten to much..just snug it up a little...

belive mopar should be same type idea...may be wrong as well..just getting familiar with mopar setups

The mopar units are very similar yes but if the center adjustment doesnt have a screwdriver slot it will be a hex head. If the adjusting doesnt fix the vagueness at center typically you will need to rebuild the box.

I gave it a slight turn tonight. no chance to test though. I'll give it a whirl tomorrow.

From my experience trying to do this, it doesn't seem to fix the slop on center. I just go to Steer & Gear to fix this problem and get a rebuilt unit. The only rebuilders I trust after some bad experiences elsewhere.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to budget for this if this doesn't help it out. :)

I would leave it alone and replace it when you have the funds available.

yup all yer after is worm gear..only thing that can go wrong there is over tightening and thatll put extra wear on worm gear...play with valves ect not good idea...you get to that point rebuild or replace

Hi folks,

Need to do a gear box on my 74 Fury. Checked out Steer & Gear and got a quote for $300, add the core and it's $500 up front...anyone know where to get one a little more resonable but still quality?

Is the core $200 bucks?

They are pretty much the guys, the only other place I saw was Feel Firm and I think they were about the same if not higher. I couldn't be happier with mine for Steer and Gear. They adjusted to "sport" to give the steering a little more resistance. I personally would wait until it is in your budget.

I restored the entire front end suspension and installed an oversized sway bar at the same time, so I can't reply on just the steering, but I honestly can't imagine it feeling any better.

I've always wanted to get a core and rebuild one to stay on center with just a finger on the wheel and instantaneous linear response when you turn the wheel with two finger.
Then I'd adjust the alignment to maximum caster. Will feel like a 2014.

The max caster increases steering effort but tracks like a slot car.
The P.S. pump is already over boosted so leave that alone
Perfect for the increased steering effort. Now it's balanced.
Then I'm shim the crap out of it so there is like .0005 clearances. You'll turn immediately to a light pressure and it will stay on that radius without moving the wheel even a .10" of an inch.

Yah. Off track...........

Camber or caster?
