Yesterday, July 4 2018 was a special independence day for me. The big R has finally arrived. Of my 40 years as a working stiff I spent the last 8 in an oil sands upgrading facility in northern Alberta, flying in and out from Calgary every week. Somewhere around 800 flights in 8 years on a cattle car 737 and believe me the travelling part was getting old. Planning to spend a year or two just fixing stuff on the ranch that I've been neglecting for so long, and maybe even take a vacation and get re-acquainted with Mrs 1Fury1. Got 3 grand kids to visit out east and another one on the way in September right close to home.

Welcome to the great world of retirement!

Most fun part is reminding everyone that is still working how you don't work anymore.

And do not forget, one of the joys of being retired is giving you grand kids lots of sugar before you send them home. Call it grandpa's revenge.

My father in law likes to sit on the porch and drink coffee in the morning watching all of us still working drive by going to work. He lovingly calls us slaves. Congrats on retirement.

That is exactly what I'm gonna do since the city commuters drive right past my place. So far it just feels like a regular weekend so I'm waiting for reality to set in, which will most likely come when there's no paycheck deposited in my account.

Congratulations! Now every day is Saturday.
BTW, you suck...

:D

Congrats on your retirement from the Motor City!

Congratulations on your escape. Forty years working sounds like a long time, but I bet when you look back, it wasn't. . . Hope you have a great time during the next forty.

Congratulation!
I've got a year and a half to go. I see a big road trip coming.

Congratulations on your freedom!
I'm counting down the days until my retirement (3 years)
I would be gone now if not for this pesky thing called health insurance....

So you finally pulled the pin. Congrats. After about 3 weeks you will get that "vacation is over, time to go back to work" feeling. Don't worry, that goes away.

After 30 years of sucking on the teat of the tax payers as a public servant...I now enjoy actually working as a retiree..mowing grass, projects around the house, woodworking, riding my cycle and of course wrenching on the cars and of course waiting for my pension check. Life is grand!!
Congrats and enjoy your hard earned fruits.....

Good advice Peter, I was concerned about that myself. Btw I still need a ride in that purple hemi. Maybe I could talk you into taking me out to Graham’s shop to pick the new rig when it comes in.
