Nobody wants to talk about this? I love my dodge, but this is cool!!!!!!!!!

Those big brushless motors make their max torque at 0 rpms. You can get brushless motors for big rc helicopters that are around 4 1/2 inches long [the can] and 3 inches wide and make 15 hp at 50 volts. Amazing new tech.

Interesting that they made a statement if the drag race was longer the gasoline engines would catch up to the Tesla and maybe beat it. As the rpm's go up in the electric the power goes down but the gas engines the higher the rpm's the power goes up.

Elon Musk: Bigger con man than Bernie Madoff.

I am not surprised at this view on this site.

Musk is changing the industry, and making it possible for the U.S. to compete for the future. Without his leadership and showing the way, the U.S. industry would be too late with too little. The U.S. does not lead the way anymore because all other major countries are forcing solutions to global warming, whether you believe in it or not. And the U.S. auto industry, except for FCA perhaps, are trying hard to keep up. We are in the beginning stages of a wholesale revamping of the automobile industry. Musk is no con artist, rather, he is a competent engineer who seeks solutions - the kind of leadership the U.S. once used to show, and which made us great. Sitting on our hands and denying real problems is making us weak, like in healthcare where other nations don't have our poor government leadership.

The ones who I believe are the con artists are the silicon valley crowd (and Musk is part of this too) who at present are speeding us into a future of self driving cars and I am not sure where that leads us, like a lot of other technology out there whose goals are suspect to me. Sitting around and doing nothing but direct robots to do our daily functions and take our jobs and think for us isn't a good path to be on IMO. Having our youth tied up on their cell phones into all hours of the morning and doing poorly in school seems to be the norm, and too many have little motivation to do anything but spend time on snap chat and instagram, etc all day long. Now that really doesn't seem good.

I also believe Musk should be designing vehicles, though, and not trying to build them given his limited resources compared to the big guys in the automobile industry. He should have stopped with production of the model S and left the others to someone else to produce. He has a lot of difficulty bringing his new models into production, and his ability to ferret out all the potential problems in the new models is poor, as the reliability ratings among his vehicles compared to the rest of industry is poor. Tesla vehicles are at the bottom of the reliability ratings every time these days. And I wonder just who services them since he doesn't have a nationwide assemblage of dealerships who can sell and service them.
