Yesterday was T shirt kind of day so I took a little afternoon ride thinking there may not be many nice ones left this year. Growing up on the prairies that harvest dust takes me way back. It's always a make or break time for farmers. If you got the rain, didn't get hailed out over the summer, and barring any major equipment breakdowns, this is where it all comes together. I had to stop and capture these two combines going in the same field with a tractor/hopper in the background.

Seems to becoming a more common theme here in the forum of late. Getting away for a bit, stopping, and smelling the roses.
I don't know if it's age or the current state of affairs.

Been doing some bike riding as well lately. Just don't get too far away from home with this single speed.:)

Remembering childhood activities with the family come to mind....

going out to the local farm and picking corn, apples, pumpkins etc. Going on a hayride and eating homemade pies.

My Mom use to make killer homemade pies from scratch just like most of your Mom's. I sure do miss her and her cooking!!!!

Nice. What is your bike. I'm no good at determining what is what when it comes to Harleys. I never spent the time to learn them because I figure I'll never have the money to own one.

Enjoy it while you can! It's corn packing time at the local plant, sweet corn everywhere! They still have 1200 acres to harvest, the seasonals from Texas have a few more days, them there will be plenty of houses for rent. I've heard they won't be bringing in the seasonal workers anymore, this is the last year.

We still have to wait for the field corn to come out. That's when the deer get spooked and they run out in front of cars. Sadly, I think the Polara is done for the year, storage is calling it's name. An it got cold here too. Went to the Twins game last night and it was 45° when we got home!

Harvest smell? As a car nut kid it has to be that New Car Smell of Dad's new cars, burning leaves and the Franklin Cider Mill.

Definitely age Stan.

I love September in Iowa. We're in harvesting season too. More and more combines are in the field and we, too, have the smell of harvest dust in the air. Warm to hot days and cool nights.

To everything turn turn turn.

I just attended my 41st HS reunion this weekend. Our list of "In memory of" just gets longer every year.

I also attended my aunt's funeral. Sadly, funerals are now the only time I get to see all my cousins and the family gets smaller.

Getting old ain't for sissies.
What a drag it is getting older.
Hope I die before I get old.

A combination of both .... but if the current state wasn't a problem you wouldn't have to get away

It begins when you become "empty nesters". Life starts slowing down as retirement approaches.
Two years and counting.

Looks like it was a wise choice to get those crops off before today

But I'm ready, bought this last Saturday ..

snowblower.jpg

Two stage, electric start, 6 gears forward, 2 gears reverse, heated handles. Not a V8, a 4 cycle 208cc with about 6.5 hp, but maybe with a blower and some race gas, who knows ...
