Throttle Cable Question

Since your car and my car are the same vintage I'll say this with some certainty, there was no throttle cable but rather a linkage set-up. You could probably find a 3 piece set-up from a big block car or truck and it would work fine.

I removed the original cable setup that bolts to the firewall near the lower rear portion of the driver side cylinder head. There is also a provision in the gas pedal for a cable to attach. When I had gotten the car, there had been a slight underhood fire which destroyed lots of the rubber hoses, belts, wiring, distributor, carb, wiper motor, blower motor and the throttle cable.I've replaced most everything so far and have a spectre aftermarket cable in place where the stock cable was.It works for now but I'd like to replace it with a new original cable if they are still available. There is no provision for a throttle linkage thru the firewall anywhere near the pedal.

Ah, you're right! I must be getting "old persons disease" aka "CRS". As for a NOS cable, I don't think you'll find such an animal unless you contact Murray Park or similar.

they dont seem to wear out in normal use , a used one would be what I would use . It seems that c bodies of similar vintage and engine would be good donors for this part. I bet one of many helpful members would fix you up easily with the cable, but you might want to remove the old cable so you could measure it and get the right one on the first try.

Has anybody thought of giving Steve(AKA IMPERIAL SERVICES) Ah call? He lists all kindz of mid '60s throttle cablez in hiz catalog. 989-652-6309...I know he moved hiz operation 20-30 miles from where he waz ah year or two ago! If that #s no good just pull him up on the web. He'z still out there in the Frankenmuth, Mi. area 'tween Flint and Saganaw. Might check him out for motor and trans. mounts too, he saved my butt with the Batwagon, Jer

Talking about throttle cables,...I need about an inch 1/2 longer cable. I put the RPM on and spacer and the cable is just a hair to short. Do they make any type of extension for this or has anyone run into this before and made something? Car is fine but I have the cable to it's limit.

Look for one from something with a /6 in it. They're longer than the V8 ones.

Nah, not really, like was said earlier, they're a pretty generic part. I have seen 66 Furies with a 6, so why not that? Measure yours before you go and compare, I think it'll give you about that much.

That is great news, I only need another 1/2 to an inch more? They would have the same ends and all? Thanks again for the info.

No, it has the RPM intake with a 1/2 spacer and Holley 850HP carb.

I was just curious as I have the RPM going on when I do the rebuild. But I am switching from 2 BBL to a 1968 Carter AVS, no spacer. Not sure how I will end up when finished.

One thing to keep in mind is the 2-bbl cables are typically longer than the 4-bbl ones.
