I was working for Chrysler in Michigan at the time, and even then I wondered about why Chrysler persisted with that incredibly heavy, big, rocking a/c compressor for so long, when GM had their smooth, high capacity roatary a/c compressor for years already. I asked the a/c guys and all they said was theirs had a lot of capacity, looking sheepish at the time. That was symptomatic of some of the engineeing departments at the time, but certainly not all of them.
