Morning fellas,

got an issue I couldnt figure out yet and I am hoping to find some help out here.

All lights work, all bulbs are good. If I turn on left side TS it works good. When turning off and back to middle Position left adn right turn signals start flashing (like hazard mode just without the fender turn signal indicators). If going on and turning on right side just the right side flashes like it should. When turning off right side all turn signals go off. So its kinda I have to turn on and off the right side TS to be sure the TS are shut off. Otherwise its possible that when I am driving that after a left turn all TS are flashing. When all TS are flashing after turning left the front fender signals DON´t flash so thats why it´s hard for me to tell if the TS are off or in hazard mode.

I feel it has to do with the TS and Hazard relais......got 5 diffent ones and couldnt figure yet which combination works 100%. Gott some electronic ones and some NOS ones......

Maybe you guys can help. Hope it´s understandable.

Thanks

A wiring issue and not a flaher issue. Check the front wiring harness for compromised ground wires. Should be one at each corner of the car, as I recall. Check the wiring schematic in the FSM. Free download at www.mymopar.com.

What vehicle are you working on?

Please advise,

Wiring ? Ok sounds absolutely fixable . Got a 1971 Sport Fury

My guess next to Relais was the tss itself although it’s brand new….
Because sometimes it feels like it depends on the position of the tss handle…

I would like to suggest that it is likely the turn signal assembly itself causing your issues. I would pull the steering wheel and check for broken bits.
I replaced a few of these that were having the same issue not necessarily the same make or model though

I did have a similar opinion but since i replaced the TSS assembly and tested it with steering wheel off and couldnt figure any damage i am away from saying its the TSS itself....... Or i did overlook something....

You shouldn't have 5 flashers or relays! Get TWO modern electro-mech flashers, wire them according to the FSM. Start disconnecting those relays until you get normal behavior from what's left, then proceed with re-wire. Be SURE the electro-mech stuff matches connections with the OEM circuitry.

Relays are great, but require careful, correct switching, lest funny stuff like this occurs. I recently rewired a computer infested 1983 Dodge w a standard electronic ignition, then had to ADD 1 relay, and disconnect the starter ignition circuit and rout it to that relay to stop it from locking the SOLENOID relay into START after the rewire. This works nicely. I saw 2 relays in the Lean Burn board, in addition to the processor chips....

Daisy chained relays can get funny. Thus logic diagrams sometimes can help. See if you can trace the turn signal and hazard circuits as they're currently wired. That too should help you solve this problem.

Good luck!

Morning,

I do have two new ones of each relais shown below. Wiring got tested many times while rebuilding the car so I feel it´s wired correctly. But as more than one fellow points towards wiring I will check it again. Already happy that it´s not a broken part again but just a "easy to fix with no money" issue (I hope)

Can´t really see how a bad wiring can cause my kind of problem but also feel like why should the brand new TSS already be broken although the handle sometimes feels weird and not easy going without some stronger pushing....

Thanks for all the input already guys.

PETERSON LIGHTING 554 10-lamp, 12-volt flasher. 21.0 amp rating. 60-120 FPM flash rate at 11 to 15 volts. 1 3/8" tall. Meets FMVSS 108 and SAE J590 & J945 specifications; 2-Prong

You picked a top rate flasher brand. IS this one an electro mech? I'm glad it meets specs, and exceeds old ones.

What you've typed regarding the TSS certainly raises doubts. Being brand new only assures that it should have some WARRANTY, which you well may need to avail yourself of, given the data you've furnished.

You mentioned some relays earlier. Are THESE original to the wiring system, or have you installed them in hope of better directing current from source to load with minimal resistance? IDK the exact original circuit for your year, so I can't be SURE if you need these or not. But, IFF these are extra, you should disconnect them, for the purpose of troubleshooting, if your problem isn't in that TSS.

Are the relays solid state, or strictly mechanical? The latter uses only solenoid coils and contacts, while the former uses FET transistors, or MOSFET ICs to switch currents. If you have SSRs, these could do mischief. The former normally just fail at coil or contact.

Better look at that TSS first though. Your own report bodes ill for that. Get your geld back if you need to.

I couldn't agree more. Pop the steering wheel off and take a good look in the column. Last I heard (or smelled!) you do not want a short circuit in there!

Good Morning friends,

it all came down to the TSS. Something is wrong in there. It´s a new SKP TSS from Rockauto but already felt very cheap when I got it. It feels also very brittle when moving the handle and in addition you need quite a bit of "power" to move the handle as it doesnt slide smoothly. Have to decide now to take another chance with a repop one (any other vendor than rockauto known who sells repops? - couldn´t find one that sells the part for 1971s) or spend 5x as much for a NOS one from Murrays.....

Thanks guys:)
