I’m taking this old leather couch to the dumps.
There is a decent amount of usable material here
Was thinking about carving out some of the big pieces for patches maybe?
Anybody ever use something like this for covering seats before? Or is it just to much hassle to use in any way.

My first thought is that the leather on that is much thinner than what we find in our cars but that’s not to say it couldn’t be used.

Automotive materials are treated differently at the factory. (UV protection) Also most couches as well as car seats only use leather on the seating surfaces.

Carving out big pieces for patches sounds like a smart way to give new life to the leather. As for covering seats, it's definitely doable with some effort and the right tools. It might be a bit of a hassle, but the end result could be totally worth it. By the way, have you ever heard of Von Baer leather products? I've heard a lot of good about them. If you're still looking for some inspiration or even a new leather item, it's worth checking them out.
