Vintage 70’s Dune Buggy videos

Super cool, thanks for sharing! I have been going to Michigan's Silver Lake sand dunes since 2000-ish and seeing the progression from then until now is mind boggling. Those buggies in the 70's are on an entirely different level of sketchiness.

Long travel buggies were popular in the mid 2000's, now it's almost exclusively sxs's with the occasional desert truck thrown in. You never see the air cooled stuff out there anymore.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it would get more of a response than it did. Figured the home made ,home hot rod flavor of it would bring back memories. Looks like a freakin blast to me!! I can only imagine what they must be like now . Got any links? I would love to see what you are speaking about.

This is a video a friend made in 2004, there might be some salty language in it, I can't remember exactly. I was driving the V8 powered 2wd Mail Jeep, it was a challenge for sure!

This one is from Labor Day weekend, randomly found it but it's pretty typical for what's out there now. Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day are the busy times out there, it gets to be difficult to navigate sometimes with all of the traffic.

Thanks for that ,very enjoyable to watch. The power today is impressive and expected but the suspension travel and sophistication of some of these vehicles is very impressive.

Yeah, it's pretty incredible. Those high end sand rails and desert trucks are $100k+ to build. It's one of the reasons the sxs's are so popular now. A $30k Polaris RZR or Can Am x3 has 90% of the capability at a fraction of the cost so it's hard to not buy one if you're looking to go fast offroad.
