Vintage Test Drive of a 1969 Hemi Dodge Daytona Charger

I loved both videos. The engine sounds on the French one made me think I was watching "Bullit". The second video was neato with Bub Lindeman on Road and Track. If I remember correctly that show was based in Milwaukee WI. Twenty years ago "Speed Vision" had Road and Track on every weekday at 8:30 am. I loved his comments almost as much as Tom Mcahill (SP) for Mechanics Illustrated.

A friend of mine owned that very car from the video. He had it for years before he started wondering about it. He did a little research and come to find out, one of the guys at Hot Rod had a little accident and after talking to the writer, that damage matched 100%.

Fast forward a couple years and he and I are at a car show and Galen Govier wanders by.... GG's jaw dropped when he looked at the VIN. He went all over the car and told my friend that he was sure that it was the first 1969 Charger 500 built and the car that Chrysler used for promotion.

He sold it when prices got high... I have no idea where the car is now.

Were the headrests still missing on it then?

The car had headrests when I first met him around 1980. He had bought the car from a used car lot in 1970-71.

Knowing Mike, if the car didn't have them when he bought the car, it would have annoyed him to have those holes there and he would have gotten headrests.

After watching this, it really sinks in how for cars have come since then. Not in the looks department, but performance, suspension, and braking.

Had I ever been in the position to get my hands on a Charger Daytona I'd never sell it. I would have instructions to.have me buried in it when the.time comes. I'm Mopar nutty that way I suppose.

Really? When I was a kid I wanted a Superbird , Daytona, and a 71 Cuda convertible.... Along with a bunch of C bodies... That desire is long gone. My passion is in the garage already

Loved both vids! I always wanted a Daytona!

There was a '68 Charger 500 prototype car. I remember seeing it at at least one local show back in the mid eighties and likely the Nats at that time too. I have pics.

I saw that car too at Mopar nats the last time it was at Indy. It had mirrors under it and that type of crap.

yep, that's the one. Had mirrors under the car and a Hemi under the hood along with the superior styling ques of the '68 model Charger such as round tail lights and round side markers.
I'll have to dig up those pics or maybe they can be seen on google images.
