Anybody know the best method to remove vinyl paint? I was painting the headrest for my Polara, the first one turned out great the second looks like crap, so I have to start over. Here's what I did. Cleaned with SEM soap, three coats of Herbs black vinyl paint, three coats of SEM clear, I waited a day in between each step. I just don't want to ruin the vinyl trying to remove the paint.

I never tried it, but I was told brake fluid works.

I have had some success with isopropyl alcohol with SEM paint.

Maybe it's the Irish in me but I think I'll try the alcohol method first.

brake fluid is absolutely NOT the way to go...
brake fluid is an OIL ..... Will penetrate the vinyl and forget about anything sticking...
However fast dry lacquer thinner works well..
Keep it wet...Wipe off color while the lacquer thinner is wet...
After wiping let dry,, wipe off any "fuzzys",, and respray....
Do not soak in lacquer thinner as well attack the vinyl after a while....

I have some lacquer thinner on my shelf right next to the acetone. Acetone is too strong...ask me how I know that.

Actually.. Brake fluid is glycol based (except for DOT 5 silicone) and not oil. I've stripped lacquer off plastic and recoated with good success, but never vinyl.
