Welcome, Boris Badenough

My 1971 Dodge Polara custom 2 door Hardtop. I've owned it for 33 years now, bought it from the Original owners in 1989 for $450. I was their Mailman for over 20 years.

After 10-12 years sitting with the Green Monster eating it, I had to rescue it and send it to get a Rebuilt Trans and lots of other work done to it to get it back to turn key ready.

It's still in the shop getting things done so it will be turn-key when it's ready. The A/C unit was sent out as the clutches had froze up. They said the housing was Cracked (I wanna see that) and had to replace it. Back on the Car now waiting to put on New Belts. You can see the New Alternator, Water Pump and in the next pic the Heater Control Valve.

Man things got expensive when we weren't looking. Back in the day 1989 when I bought the car from original owners the Heater Control Valve was like $10-$12 but now E-Bay fine for $89 + Tax + Shipping $109.00 but ya gotta have it. Carb was Rebuilt $350 Brakes front and rear done, new Brake lines and 6 little 12 inch long Gas lines by the Tank, New Tires (old ones had tons of tread but 22 years old and they wouldn't reinstall them.) Had the American Torq Thrusts cleaned and polished up, bought new center caps and lug nutz. New grill installed. Carpet, Headliner and seats done just before it was parked, so should be good to Go!
I'll add more as we go along. Can't wait to Drive my Land Yacht again. Thinking about new paint job too, we'll see.

@Boris Badenough -- thank you for posting about DL23K1D272818 and what you are doing to bring her back on the road!

With the help of @71Polara383, over the course of the past 3 years I have gotten Medina, my 1971 Monaco 2dr, back in shape to close-to-original (save the paint...) and great-driving condition. You may find the thread about her restoration (including info on the parts I have bought) useful.

Going back to your Polara, I see from the fender tag that you posted here that DL23K1D272818 was originally FQ5 turquoise metallic ("Poly"). Was it repainted at some point in its life?

Regardless, I know of two other 2dr 1971 Polara in the same color: DE23G1F256411 (a Polara previously owned by @71Polara383 and now in Florida, see here) and DM23T1D10xxxx (a Polara Brougham owned by @fc7_plumcrazy and previously ministered to by @saforwardlook ). DL23K1D272818 is a Polara Custom and it rounds out the trims known on the board.

Here is a decode of your tag:
