What to do? Coolant leak 69 318.

Since you have it buttoned up already this maybe moot, but for anyone doing this in the future on a small block you need to look at these areas for corrosion.

I found that where your arrows are, but on the other side that's in contact with the block, had the worst corrosion. I cleaned up those surfaces on mine with various tools, brushes, solvents, and then applied JB weld to the craters and then sanded them down to restore the face surface.

Also - watch the bushings or spacers for the alternator bracket. If you don't get them right, tightening one of the bolts will tend to pull the timing cover away from the block.

Thanks for the heads up.
I cleaned the areas and looked good to the naked eye.
Did not see any pitting, just old gasket schtuff.lol

Tonite I filled Frankie up with 50/50 mixed coolant.
Fired right up with no issues.
I let the system burp, top off, then put on the rad cap.
Ran for 15 minutes checking the temp with a laser gun.
The guage in the car read halfway when the thermostat opened up at 195 degrees.
No leaks and after running him in the garage for over 30 minutes did not overheat.
Oil change is next!
ITs been 5 weeks since I ordered my hoist. I have been calling thrm regularly.
At least now all 3 C's are mobile whrn the hoist arrives..whrnever thats gonna be..
