I wasn't sure where to post this. I was looking through steering boxes on Rock Auto when I found this in the listings. Seems cheap enough to take the risk.
wholesaler closeout on power steering box.
It looks like a Lares new steering box, but I don't know if they are just showing wrong pictures or if Cardone bought a bunch of the Lares units and now wants to unload.

Is that what commonly called the "Saginaw" box?

The same one that is custom modified and supplied by Borgsen?

The same one that you might have to cut your column shaft and use an adapter because the wormgear shaft on the box is too long?

No. the Borgesen is a different steering box.

The box in your picture (on the left) is the original-style box (not sure if that has a name, is it known as just the "Chrysler" box?
Neither one (in your picture) is what is offered for sale on rock (for $90 CAD, no core charge) but ok so it's not the Borgsen unit.

For anyone considering that unit, I'd double-check the pitman arm shaft diameter. Some are 1 1/8 inch, others are 1 1/4 inch. Although, given that 1 1/4 inch C-body pitman arms are practically impossible to find (or insanely expensive) maybe the 1 1/8 inch route is do-able?

The photo of the sale is a brand new box, it was originally offered from the Lares company. But I am not sure if Cardone or Rock auto are just posting photos of the Lares unit or that the box is infact the new steering box that was originally from Lares. I looked around and it looks like if you want a new steering box you will get the new style from many reseller part stores.

The Lares 11031 ($390) and the CARDONE 27654 ($63) and the CARDONE 976542GB ($345) all look to be the same unit. Which I still say is a "Saginaw" unit unless someone knows it by a different / correct name.

The BBB INDUSTRIES 5020106 ($200 + core) and LARES 1031 ($342 + core) look to be the original style "Chrysler" box. Note that they still want to get the old cores back for these, as only these units have a core charge ($50 for BBS and $250 (!) for Lares).

Cardone 27-6542 has a 1-1/4" sector shaft. The image shown on Rock Auto is the same as the image shown on Cardone's site. The number apparently was used for an actual Chrysler steering gear in the past.

It does look like the Lares 11031.

Well, it appears to fit my 72 New Yorker, 75 Dart and 87 5TH AVE cars that I'm going to keep and run into the ground over the next few decades.
So, incoming.
I'll disassemble it and make all the needed adjustments. As usual.
I bet it's a rebuilt return. Set up firm feel?

Thanks for the heads up, I think I just ordered the last one. The steering box is the last major leak on the car right now, so that was already on next summer's list.

The steering gear box arrived yesterday. I ordered it three days ago. It appears to be as advertised.
It was $100 delivered with tax, no core charge.
Hope everyone that wanted one got one.
Now its $95 with a $115 core charge plus shipping.

My order is on the way, shows that it is in Illinois. How was the shipping box condition, I have bad experiences with heavyish orders and UPS in the past, broken open, parts missing scattered. Etc.
What style box arrived? The one in photo or a factory box rebuilt?
Thanks.

Typical Rock Auto no name double boxed. Good condition. 38 pounds.
