Has anyone attempted to tow their fusie C-body with a tow dolly before? :laughing4: I have a 71 New Yorker which needs to be moved a short distance, and would like to use a friend's tow dolly. Only about 10 miles. I'm not able to get to the car to take measurements....does someone know what the front track is (assuming stock width wheels/tires)? What about fender clearance? What is the width of these cars at the fenders? My intuition tells me it is going to be too wide, just wondering if anyone else tried this.

Thanks.

I have a tow dolly and a '66 c-body. I have not used it on my '66. I know when I bought my dolly there was a couple of widths available. I keep both at my shop. I will be there tomorrow and can make some measurements for you but I would check the width of you friends dolly. I will measure my '66, I don't know the difference between your '71

I've used U-haul dollies on every gen C-body. They've all fit but except for the slabs, we're talking an inch or two on each side. Ten miles should be no problem.

My '69 New Yorker is 79" wide overall, with a 71.5" wide front track with factory steel wheels, measured outside to outside of the tires, and not including the squish at the base of the tire.

My '68 300 is 76.5" overall at the bodylines with a 70" front track with original 6" Magnums.

The issue that I dislike about car dollies is when you turn the fender of the dolly can hit your car, so if you don't have much room to spare, you won't be able to turn to any degree....And if you have to back up......

Thanks! Yah, at those measurements I don't think it will fit, at least not a U-Haul tow dolly. Not if you want to turn at all. They state a maximum vehicle width of 75". And I believe that is of the car, not of the front tires. My friend says his is very similar to a U-Haul tow dolly so I'm taking those measurements as a guideline. Now I have seen people put full-size pickup on tow dolly's without an issue. But would our C-bodies be even wider than a full-size pickup? Seeing as it's the U-Haul website, I imagine the measurements are on the conservative side to avoid any risk of damage.

Not sure about front track, but 71-72 C-bodies and 72-73 pickups with the 8 3/4 rear use the same axle shafts........

Towed a 71 Fury III 4 door sedan from Tennessee to Florida a few months ago using a U Haul tow dolly (about 740 miles - tow car was a Chevy Avalanche) with no problems. Pulled the driveshaft prior to the tow.
