Engine swap should I go 360 or 383

I wouldn’t take the one from the poly because a) the pans might be different depths, and b) if you aren’t going to need the poly for anything else you could sell it as a running engine and recoup some money.

Got my 360 today brout it home, happily surprised it has a nice 4 barrel carb and a aluminum Edelbrock manifold. Now time to start pulling of all the crap on top like the AC compressor etc. and start braking it done for rebuild.

So upon further inspection has an Edelbrock performer intake and a Carter AFB 623cfm carburetor which I will rebuild/refurbish so that saves me couple hundred bucks I I can spend on more parts. Was a good score for $500 '76 360 with 50,000 miles on it and I got to hear it run before I pulled it also looks clean through the valve covers no sludge. I'm gonna start stripping it next weekend will keep posting update as I go.

Forgive me I forget, but why are you pulling it down and not just running it as is?

I'm just cleaning it up doing some minor things to it to quicken it up and make sure it'll be reliable as I plan to use my fury as a daily driver. It has things I need to pull off like the after market AC compressor and a couple other things.

I know I need a to get a center sump oil pan and motor mounts so you guys know of anything else I would need in regards to installing it in my fury? Any advice is much appreciated

Spent some time today undressing the 360 took off ac canister, fan and pulleys, power steering pretty much all the bulk went smooth except for a couple bolts that I had to torch. So next up is to check and clean the carb and then wire brush and clean the block while in mean time I find headers, oil pan, timing chain and figure out which cam to use. Overall the motor home 360 has good bones

Get rid of that engine stand. Very unstable. . .

Engine stand looks fine to me, 4 wheels on them is a fairly recent development.

If you are keeping it full on cruiser, find a cam that will work with a heavy car with stock low stall torque converter. Maybe even one aimed at 4x4 trucks.

Go back and re-read my long post on the previous page about water pumps and such.

Yea I'm planning on trying to adapt the power steering currently in the car to the 360 also just going to get a new radiator. I will look into the torque converter we were planning on using one from our roadrunner and I'm shopping around for a mild cam for low-end torque. Guy in my area has a brand new comp cams thumper cam and lifters set for Mopar small block on offer up for 250. I'm gonna call comp cams tomorrow and see if it's compatible if so I'm going to get it.

That cam isn’t going to be what you want. Don’t buy a cam because it’s what you can get this minute, order the right cam and wait a couple of days. For the same money you can get the right cam and lifters for what you’re trying to do. Comp has voodoo or extreme energy kits with duration around 256 that would be what you want.

Cleaned up the 360 getting ready for teardown my plan is to just freshen it up as the engine runs good and start stockpiling parts for full rebuild later next year, I pulled the valve covers and it's clean inside looks like the guy who had it before me took care of it so I ordered oil pan kit from Mancini racing next is freeze plugs and gaskets then ready for paint thinking about painting it red like my poly is, I like the look it gives it. But yea coming its along
