Production of the 1974 Monacos and Furys ended July 25, 1974. Could you grab a picture of the door sticker in order to find out the car's actual production date (MDH)?

The 903 means special order. Y39 is not on the tag - Do Belvidere built tags show the Y39?

a “special sales order” number doesn’t necessarily mean special order.

The VON could indicate dealer demo, promo car, lease car, sale to a preferred vendor or other reasons none of which qualify to be special order and trigger Y39.

Is there a source on special meanings in the Vehicle Order Number? The MMC Detroit site has something, but code 903 is not mentioned.

every tag is one piece in a very large puzzle. Put them all together and the picture of what and how each plant handled the info becomes more clear.

Every year is, generally, different in some way. Meaning what a code means in one year may mean something the next. So you kind of have to know what year is being discussed.

Some VONs are make specific meaning you’ll find them only on a Dodge or a Plymouth. Some are common across all lines. The study of VONs is a fascinating puzzle unto itself.

A 90xxxx series VON is significant...for 1969.

By 1974, specially VONs use letters (fleet cars, lease cars, dealer demos, special paint, etc) some of the letter codes will trigger Y39 and some won’t.

yet, a 90xxxx VON is not typical or common. I don’t think it carries the same meaning as a VON that starts with a letter but I don’t have any proof one way or another. The best research would be the broadcast sheet as it would show applicable Y codes.

No broadcast sheets, just this little piece of trivia: A July-scheduled 1974 Newport from East Jefferson Assembly also has a VON starting with 9. Coincidence or a lead?

Without other documentation, that’s highly doubtful.

The fender tag simply does not code like an ordered police car. It may have been a car used for police work; that we’ll probably never know. But there’s nothing from the evidence provided so far that this was a car ordered specifically by and for a police agency.

Wheels are easily changed.

Guess well never know I sold a 77. Royal to a guy with 999 in it alot meaning special paint is that a police car or govt car can't remember anything else also had a bullet lodged in the windshield and a bullet hole in the fender

Who owned the car or what they did with it is irrelevant. What you want to know is how the car was ordered and by whom. That can only come from factory documents like a window sticker, invoice or broadcast sheet.

If my dad is a small town constable that has to buy his own car and he goes to a dealer to buy a car and he buys a spring special dealer incentive discounted car to use on patrol and he outfits the car as such, he is using it for ‘cop car’ purpose but it was not ordered as a ‘cop car’.
