Hi folks...another C-body has landed

Hello everybody.
Here's my '73 Dodge Monaco 500, imported to Denmark when new in 1973. It was born green metallic with a black vinyl roof, and has been sitting in a garage since 1991. This pic is taken in january, when it landed in my little workshop.

This picture is taken by a previous owner...in 1986. Sweet, eh?

AFAIK, it is the only one in DK...well, in Scandinavia, apart from one in Finland.

The second photo has 80's all over it..........and she lost her vinyl top by 86? Is That a white interior? Buckets or bench front seating? Damn it I need more information!! :icon_jook:

She lost the top in about 1984 (when she turned from a green-metallic duchess to a matte-black femme fatale) ...
Yep, white interior, with bucket/bench style seat. Pic underneath is also from 1986, look at the white plush on the seats...lots of 80's karma in the interior.

And, to stay in the 80's horror of car styling: Ladies and gentlemen, i'll bring you the engine compartment.

Before getting blue, it was matte black. Here's 1984:

And this pic underneath is the oldest existing one. Taken at Vesterbrogade, Copenhagen. You can notice it has a black enamel license plate, that type ran from 1968-1976.

A true beauty.

Oh, and the 500 moniker...i decoded the fender tag and VIN plate, and the calc said "Monaco 500". That's all the information i have for stating that.

Did i forgot to write that it's a matching numbers car?

That is really cool looking car; probably one of least recognized fuselage cars. Love it.

I was in love from the beginning i saw that thing. It is a rare model, especially up here. In the danish Mopar Club, we have quite a lot of c-bodies, though.
Just to mention a few; 1967 Sport Fury, 1968 Fury III 4-d HT, 1970 Newport 4-d HT, Fury II cab., 300 Hurst, Monaco 2-d. HT, 1972 Newport...

That car has led its life looking like a stick of fruit stripe gum..... I love the car..........I'm still not buying the 500 thing though. IN 1971 the 500 designation was dropped in favor of the Brougham name plate. Is it coded for export? What code did you look at to determine its a 500?

Polara71, the only source i've got about the 500 thing is the vin-decoding tool from, i think it's mymopar.com. I can't see if it's been a brougham, are they brougham seats in the interior?

I suppose you'd have to post the fender tag information for all to see. Is that correct? That fellow from mymopar.com wants $30.00 to decode your fender tag?


I havent been around enough 73's to be able to tell you but I can say that there is enough knowledge here to figure it out.

I stand by my original thought, No 500's after 1970.

So...back at the thread, after some long months of repairing and so on.

Polara71, i think you're right about the 500 thing - so let's get to something different...

...as the case is - IT RUNS!!! Yep, last week the Monaco passed the inspection and got its license plates, and the day after, i drove it to the annual Danish Mopar Meet. Sweet.

What did happen to the car after it was dropped off at the garage?...
...Lets see: Engine taken out and overhauled, internally cleaned and cylinders honed, new parts such as a comp cam, lifters, pumps etc.
The 727 got a new filter kit and fluid, the 8 1/4" rear had new oil, the brake system was completely renewed, it had some rust just in front of the rear wheel well (as on A-bodies) , the electrics was looked over and some wires replaced (that included 50 feet of strange, un-fused wiring used for CB, stereo and an electronic antenna, which remains was dragged out of the trunk).

The car's name is now "The Beast", since we think it looks totally badass, with its old, blasted-and-then-epoxy-painted 8x15" / 10x15" Cragars with spinners, and roller-painted body.

What do you think?

Well....I'll go first. Not my cup of tea what with all those modifications, I prefer the stock or near stock look, BUT I respect your efforts in resurrecting an old mopar which could have end up in some junkyard. So in that aspect I'll give you Kudo's for saving it to see another day.

Did your car have to be brake tested during inspection in your country? I know my cars had to be brake tested during in inspection in Germany when I was stationed there in the U.S. Army.

I dont like it, I dont like the paint, the big tires protruding from the rear wheel wells and I dont like the grim reaper stick. Everything else I cant see from the photo given but I also agree with 70fuselageImperial'sstatement.
