Hi-
I am new to Mopars. Last year I got a '68 Cuda and am looking into buying a '71 4dr Sport w a 360. It is a true survivor w 51k on it and all the normal stuff wrong w a 44yr old car. It runs and drives great. I am wondering if the price is right and how many of these are around. I know 4drs are less desirable, but I'm ok with it.

The Cuda has required almost no work. It is running 13s w a worked 318 and I may eventually try for 12 by doing some work, but for now i am happy with it.

The Fury is something i would like to play with and am hoping you can help me with a couple questions. it has a 360 w a Holley 2bbl. What is the feasibility of swapping the intake and putting a 4bbl on it?

If I find a 440 to rebuild could that fit easily? Or, can a 360 be worked to the same degree?

I would want to put on dual exhaust. There does not appear to be much clearance for headers.

How rare are Sport GTs?

Thank you- Steve

Yes, a 440 would fit. It was an engine option for 1971. You'll need a big block trans. Your drive shaft might work, since you probably have a small block 727 trans now.

On the small block intake, an Edelbrock dual plane is a bolt on. At worst, you might have to make some adjustments as far as the throttle cable/kickdown bracket to make a 4-barrel work.

Welcome!

Thanks. I would probably start with trying the manifold and carb swap and see how that goes. I couldnt afford to get he car and a 440 and rebuild it all at once anyway. but I am loving the car and its potential

If you need to save money you might consider rebuilding that Holley 2-barrel. I had a factory stock Holley 2-barrel on a 59 Ford F250 with a 292 solid lifter cam V8. It had a 4 speed on the floor with granny gear. That thing would get up and scoot with that 2 barrel. If yours is like mine, it has an idle air passage straight down from the air horn to the area of the throttle plates that can be cleaned out with a straight piece of coat hanger. If that passage is clogged, your eyes will start to water when you're outside the car while it's idling. Other than that, the rebuild is straight forward. Holley might have gotten rid of that passage by 71 anyway.

What kind of performance problems are you having?

Simply swapping on a 4bbl carb & intake (the Edelbrock intake is an ideal piece), won't let you realize the performance the engine could be capable of, if you leave the 2bbl cam in place. Wanting to let the engine breathe better is a great upgrade, but if you only change the carb & intake without changing the cam, you're still restricting the engine's ability to breathe.
