Grandpa's Car

IMG_0661.JPG
Lucky girl that one should last her a while. Agree on the 3.8 I had a 95 Bonneville and loved it.
Similar thing here my dad just stopped driving and donated his 99 Dodge Stratus to me as an airport commuter. Great car w air cruise pw. Has 159K on it and I think it was serviced 159 times.

My grandmother stopped driving at 93 and passed down her 1999 Impala... like yours, it had some bruises but at 40,000 mi it was just about broken in mechanically. Kind of a no sh** Sherlock.
Hope your daughter likes it!

When my father passed, his 10k mi. Dynasty became my mother's DD.
When my mother passed, my sister "allowed me" (I don't want to get into it ) "temporary use" of the 14k mi. Dynasty.
Now please note, I detested that Dynasty from the day my father brought it home.
Well, one week after getting the Dynasty, the tranny self destructed on I-95 on my way to work. 14k miles...
Gave it back to my sister. :icon_fU:

He can come back and change the title to Great-grandfather's car.

It will be a while before I have anything other than Grandpuppies, neither girl has any interest in motherhood at the moment and thats fine with me :) however Grandpa at 96 now has a Great Great Grandchild born last week to my Neice. That makes me a Great Uncle I guess but then I always was ...5 generations is pretty cool. Grandpa was in the RCAF and also the RAF during WW2. He bowls twice a week and looks after his new wife. Amazing man and has no sympathy for the snowflake generation!

They're the ones to find... a grandpa's car

Well in my case my father. Could no longer renew his license last year at age 91. Younger wife drives a Toyota SUV so his car sits mostly. It is a 2004 LeSabre 3800 V6 with 41,000 miles of time spent in Arizona and California.

Nice car, my brother-in-law has had three Centuries and LaSabres of this era. He puts a ton of miles on and when one becomes too expensive to repair, he finds another used one in good shape. Driving from NW PA to Cleveland every day rotating shift work. They have all been very dependable.

I know were not related but can I get the same deal as Doba???? I will be on a plane tonight. Lol

My son called me just a couple hours ago, he ran out of gas with his truck and coasted into a friend's driveway.

As usual, Dad to the rescue...

I pulled in the driveway and saw that his 30ish year old friend had two Buicks like this in his driveway.

Wow... Same story... Dad passed, Mom had the Dynasty until she couldn't drive. I needed a car and I got it... and the trans went in it...

The twist to my story was my ex-wife ended up with the car in the divorce.

Seriously? Unbelievable.

And two happy endings...

Sweet! You can't go wrong with this car. Buick was at the top of their game for quality in this era. My Mother-in-law was a GM person. Father-in -law would only buy used Ford Fairmount type cars from Hertz. What turned out to be her last car, I helped her buy what she wanted, a used (per F-I-L) 2004 Century in the color and options she wanted. I maintained it until she passed. It as been the car my boys have been using as the college car. Super safe, 100K + miles, now travels 6 hrs between Iowa and Chicago. The rust in the rockers is a common issue, it is cosmetic unless you need to use the slots for the jack points. Top off the A/C every year, regular oil changes change the orange dex-a-cool and you can run it forever. 31 mpg on the highway and 19-21 in town. Lots of Youtube videos on maintaining these cars. All the parts can be found at Rock Auto or other stores at reasonable prices. These cars are the slant 6 for Buick, you can't kill them. Gold is the # 1 color, followed by white. As a game, start counting how many you still see on the roads, no fair driving by retirement homes. Perfect car to use when hiding out or going undercover. I am a 100% disciple of Chrysler engineering guy, this is my first GM / Buick, I got to say, I appreciate it. The odds are everyone brand creates one "good" car once in a while.

I see what looks like a red poppie in the driver side head rest, the type the Veterans sell every year. My grandpa always had them on the sun visors of his cars. I always buy new ones every year have them in all my cars to carry on the memory and service of our Vets. Does anyone else do this? I am only 53, but was raised along side a large WW II era auto working family in Detroit.
