Ask the man who owns one... the factory air cleaner is a royal PIA to remove/install. If I were still driving mine, I'd probably keep the original for shows (and for sale ads).

What is it about them that makes them a PITA?

1) The carb-to-cleaner interface has notches/tabs that allows it to sit flush in just one spot with about 1-degree of play.

2) Everything except the very center circle (like a smaller TNT pie tin) is one piece, like the old style oil-bath cleaners (which it was likely adapted from). That makes it heavy and awkward, even worse than the backwards pre-70 design.

3) The center tin is practically an on-size cover for the hole that fits flush with the rest of the housing, but only in one exact spot; through a carb stud that barely sits proud of said hole.

Doing all of this over a huge, wide fender is like dropping a 45 precisely onto a record player located in your living room... from the kitchen.

Although, it's not much of an issue since older, cars almost never require access to the carburetors.
