YES!
Wow, I was completely unaware... The author was certainly right about Eddie, he is a great guy and big Mopar fan... I'll have to reach out to him. Eddie is still an A Body member, but hasn't logged in over here for a long time.
The car has really faded since the article, and the photo's are kind to her. When I got her the paint had a speckled sheen to it from being sprayed with something or an unfortunate paint dressing (not carnauba). I've washed her enough to say that wasn't the cure, but there is just enough rust wanting to happen that I knew from the start she'd need paint someday. She has a few smallish rust bubbles under the vinyl top,
@1978 NYB can tell you how that story goes... The rust on this car is incredible, in that it's just enough to kill all value, yet not so bad to not want to fix her.
Given the $1900 the article says Eddie paid, and the amount of mechanical work that he did to her... as usual, Eddie lost $ on the sale. She came to me as seen in the article, Road Wheels and all, for not enough over his purchase price to cover the repairs he performed during his love affair with her. It is funny (to me), that I made it very clear to Eddie that she was destined to become my parts car for the Twins... I think he knew, somehow, that I wouldn't be able to kill her after my road trip.
Carlisle, Pittsburgh, Orlando... my summer vacation
The NYB has been stored outdoors in the unforgiving FL sun... her back seat had already split and the drivers seat back leather had already crisped and torn before I bought her... the interior isn't trash, but the seats aren't in the nice condition the photographer would have liked for you to believe.
She will continue life, and gets some use in the daily commute. Someday, there will be paint, and probably a color change just because... IDK if it will be done by me, Maaco or somebody good. It's not happening very soon though.
BTW, my DD 99 Suburban vs 76 NYB... the NYB has better handling and a much better ride and brakes are easily equivalent... minus ABS. As I drive nothing that has a more modern steering/suspension in my regular routine, I find absolutely none of the issues that others like to complain about... except that the steering has an additional half or full turn lock to lock. Nothing that has inspired me to shop for spinners or anything silly like that. Having driven enough carburetor cars, and not all of them worked out to perfection, she has no negative characteristics that diminish my enjoyment one bit. When hauling a heavy vehicle up to speed, it is easy to want more power... and the end result is always finding that you have the ability to go faster than you want to panic stop from.
In the 'Burb, I am more inclined to tailgate slower traffic, probably because my mental calculator knows how cheap another bumper will be and I care far less about the vehicle in general... and my insurance is paid up. The NYB is an entirely different driving experience for me, I have spares and she doesn't wear the cherry parts from the hoard... but I feel much more calm and tend to give myself a few extra minutes for the commute... a perfect way to change out of my "normal" rage and disappointment when driving to the office. I'm a nervous wreck when I take a black car into the same traffic, but the NYB can be door dinged without me losing my mind (at least not entirely). I have pointed out paint transfer in the company parking lot to a manager before... he was far more upset than I was, as I then pointed out the green streak "Management" put there with the riding mower at home. BTW, your Toyota door will implode before it gives a Formal much of a dent.
Thank you,
@commando1 ... this was a very nice surprise to wake up to. I had no idea this existed, Eddie could have marketed her a little better using this... I found her on a CL search, after she sat around a while and the initial price had dropped to the "I need her gone" price.
