While perusing eBay in August, 2003, I found a listing fro a '70 Newport ragtop in Nevada. Seller was claiming it to be a factory 440 car and the bid was stalled at $3,500. car looked good in the pictures, but the seller was clearly wrong about the motor as he had posted the VIN and it had a L in it.

I called him. I talked with him about it fro a long while. He was wondering why he couldn't get a bid higher than what he had, so I told him about the incorrect information concerning the motor. I told him Chrysler people are funny; they will be wondering what else he was lying about? I also told him that as a Newport, he was not going to see 300 money.

So, I asked him what he was hoping to receive? He told me $6,500. I told him I thought that was high for his car, BUT... if he would hold the car until I came up with the money I'd give him his price. After a pause, he agreed.

So, I sent him a small deposit and put my '62 New Yorker up for sale on eBay. That was how I met Steve Hobby when he bought the car in September for 2 grand. It took me two months to come up with the remaining $5,000. However, by borrowing it from a woman in my Church, I drove to Pahrump, Nevada, and drug the car home.

I was right that I paid too much as I had quite a bit of work to do on the car, including brakes cooling, motor mounts, and AC, but, I've had the car for 15 years and 41,000 miles. I drove it last Saturday and will do so again today.

So, Happy Anniversary to me and my Newport!

When I first got it. Notice the missing wheel well trim. You can't tell, but the side-marker lenses were cracked and faded too.

It was also missing the trim on the inside of the grill. Sure glad I found it because today would be difficult!!

Trim pieces and lenses found! First alteration, adding Shelby Cal 500s. Had these for some 12 years.

Here's a good look after I had polished them after some ten years of use.

Current appearance, with AR Torque Thrust Ds, my favorite wheel!! One day I hope to have the car repainted in its original Silver Metallic, and redo the interior. Since we recently paid off our house, perhaps that will start to happen in 2019! Thanks for looking!

Great looking car, but will be better in silver.
I agree!! If only I can ever afford to do so....

The night I brought it home my wife came out of the house, took one look at the car and said, "That's ugly. What color are you going to paint it?" Ha!

Can't believe someone took a silver car and painted it green.
I agree Stanley, but it had sat outside in the Nevada desert heat. The original owner decided to paint it, as well as change the carpet, dye the seats, etc. Why green?? I've no idea.

The torq thrusts are also my all time favorite wheel but I also really like the slot mags on that particular car. They really complement the smooth lines of fuselage style and give it bit of a muscular look.

I love the green.

Silver with a white interior seems odd. When the PO dyed the interior, did he change the color to white?
No, it was always white. Silver exterior, white interior, black top. Today it has a white top. Even if I do paint it silver the white top will stay. Not going to drive around in hot California with a back top. Nope!

I liked them too, but a funny thing, hardly anyone ever said anything to me about the car. Once the TTs were put on the comments have flowed! Even yesterday as I was driving it. I have found that to be quite interesting.

It could be the only one they made in silver and white, so it makes sense to put it back to original. I do agree on sticking with the white top both for looks and reflecting the sun as you said.
